Guidance for your first visit to hydrotherapy
Prior
-
Please ensure you leave plenty of time to find us if this is your first visit (SP11 OQZ), this eliminates you & your dog becoming stressed/anxious
-
Ensure your dog/cat/rabbit has been brushed to remove any loose hairs prior to your session
-
Allow your pet time to go to the toilet prior to the hydrotherapy session
-
Please DO NOT feed your pet for at least two hours before the session (except in the case of rabbits who can have food)
-
Come prepared to get wet!!!! Your pet will most likely shake during the session & usually we all get a bit damp
-
Bring some treats from home they like
-
If they have a coat please bring this with you to put on after the session
-
Please sit in your car till you are called in by the hydrotherapist!
During
-
We encourage owners to be present during sessions. Your presence will help to relax and reassure your pet. Praise and encouragement from you will go a long way to helping your pet feel more settled in a strange environment.
-
Some pets enjoy water more than others. Remember this is a completely new experience for your pet and it is perfectly normal for them to be nervous or to panic a little a first. We will introduce your pet slowly to the water and get in with them. Your pet's confidence will increase with each session and some pets need longer to get used to the idea than others, they are all individuals
After
-
Your pet may feel exhilarated, calm, sleepy or both after a session, this is a perfectly normal response to hydrotherapy
-
You are very much part of the rehabilitation process and we will always ask for your feedback about your pet after the last session. Therefore, we ask that you observe your pet afterwards
