Hydrotherapy is an excellent form of exercise as most of the muscles normally used in movement can be achieved without the stresses when performed on land.
On land, each step the dog takes creates a shockwave that travels up the limb which gets absorbed by bones, tendons and joints. These stresses are necessary to
maintain healthy strong bones however, if severe or repetitive they can eventually cause damage or weakness. This is especially the case in arthritic joints or dogs
recovering from surgery.
Hydrotherapy helps by:
- Strengthening muscles
- Reduce inflammation of injured joints and tissues there
- Improving and maintaining quality of life
- Relieving the compensatory limb tension
- Assisting mobility and flexibility
- Relaxing muscle spasms
- Decreasing pain and relieving discomfort
- Making joints more supple
- Speeding recovery time after surgery
- Helps to relax muscles and therefore improving range of motion
- Improving circulation to the affected limb
- Slowing degenerative processes
- Encouraging your pet to use all four limb equally
Thank you Top Dog! Spike came to you after rupturing his achilles tendon. We found you were very attentive to his needs, and he really enjoyed himself. The hydrotherapy has significantly improved his life and considerably assisted his recovery. We will ensure we give the vet positive feedback about Top Dog and would highly recommend it to anyone who's dog would benefit. Thank you very much! G.Thelwall owner of Spike
